Built by a licensed loan officer

How rent reporting helps you build toward a home.

The short version — and every question you've got.

Your rent is probably the biggest payment you make every month — and for most renters, it has never counted toward their credit. We change that. Here's how rent reporting works, what's included in each plan, and how it ladders up to the bigger goal: owning your home.

How rent reporting works

Every month, you pay rent on time. Until now, that payment history lived between you and your landlord — it never showed up on your credit report. BetterCredit reports your on-time rent payments to the credit bureaus, so the rent you're already paying becomes part of your credit history.

  • We report your on-time rent payments to the bureau or bureaus included in your plan.
  • Your payment history joins your credit file alongside things like loans and credit cards.
  • The credit bureaus determine how that information factors into your credit score.

We'll always be straight with you: we don't control your credit score, and we don't promise a specific result. What we do is make sure your on-time rent is actually being reported — something most renters never get credit for. How the bureaus weigh it is up to them.

What we report — and what we don't

We report your on-time monthly rent payments, once your tenancy is verified and your subscription is active. That's it — one clear job, done well.

We don't dispute, remove, or change anything else on your report. BetterCredit is nota credit repair service. We don't file disputes, we don't touch the items already on your file, and we don't promise to erase anything. We add one new, positive data point — your rent — and let it stand on its own.

Choose your plan

Every plan reports your on-time rent. The difference is how many bureaus see it, whether you bring your past rent along, and whether you get a licensed loan officer in your corner.

From renting to owning

Most people start BetterCredit with one goal in mind: to stop renting and start owning. Building a stronger, more complete credit profile is one piece of getting mortgage-ready — and it's the piece most renters are missing.

Here's what makes BetterCredit different: when you're ready to explore buying a home, you won't be handed off to a stranger. BetterCredit was founded by a licensed mortgage loan officer. Premium members get direct access to talk through where they stand and map out a realistic path — with someone who does this for a living and genuinely wants to see renters become owners.

We can't promise you'll qualify for a mortgage, and no one honestly can — approval depends on many factors a lender reviews. What we can tell you is that you'll have a licensed professional in your corner when you're ready to take that step.

Who's behind BetterCredit

BetterCredit was built by a licensed mortgage loan officer who spent years watching renters with steady, on-time payment histories get turned away from homeownership — not because they couldn't afford it, but because their credit file didn't reflect the most reliable payment they made every month.

That background matters. This isn't a faceless credit app — it's built by someone who works in mortgages every day and knows exactly what lenders look for.

Your data and your privacy

Sharing your information should feel safe, so we keep a few commitments simple and firm:

  • Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • When you connect a bank account for Boost, that connection runs through Plaid. Your bank login credentials are never shared with us.
  • We don't sell your personal information.

You're always in control of your account, and you can cancel anytime.

Frequently asked questions

Does reporting my rent guarantee a higher credit score?

No — and you should be cautious of anyone who promises that. We report your on-time rent payments to the credit bureaus included in your plan. The bureaus decide how that information factors into your score. What we make sure of is that your rent is actually being reported, which is something most renters never get credit for.

Which credit bureaus do you report to?

It depends on your plan. Starter reports to Experian. Premium and Premium + Boost report to all three major bureaus — Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

How is this different from credit repair?

Completely. Credit repair companies focus on disputing or removing items already on your report. BetterCredit does not do that. We do not dispute anything, we do not remove anything, and we do not promise to change your score. We simply add one new, positive data point — your on-time rent — to your credit file. BetterCredit is not a credit repair organization.

Do I need good credit to get started?

No. BetterCredit is built for renters at every stage, including people who are just starting to build a credit history. You pay rent already — we help make sure it counts.

How soon will my rent show up on my credit report?

Reporting begins after your tenancy is verified and your subscription is active. From there, when new information appears on your credit report depends on the bureaus' own update cycles — that timing is set by them, not by us. We do not quote a specific number of days, because we cannot control the bureaus and we will not promise something that is not ours to promise.

What is the Boost option?

Boost is a one-time $99 add-on to Premium. By securely connecting your bank account through Plaid, we can add up to 24 months of your past rent payments to your report, where that history can be verified. It is a way to put your existing track record to work instead of starting from today.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There are no long-term contracts. You can cancel your subscription whenever you choose.

Is my financial information safe?

Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and when you connect a bank account through Plaid, your bank login credentials are never shared with us. We do not sell your personal information.

What happens when I am ready to buy a home?

That is where BetterCredit is different. The company was founded by a licensed mortgage loan officer, and Premium members get direct access to talk through their path to a mortgage with a real professional. We cannot promise approval — no honest lender can — but you will have someone experienced in your corner when you are ready.

How much does BetterCredit cost?

Starter is $9.99/month and reports to Experian. Premium is $19.99/month, reports to all three bureaus, and includes access to a licensed loan officer. Premium + Boost is $19.99/month plus a one-time $99 charge that adds up to 24 months of verified past rent history.

Ready to make your rent count?

You're already paying rent on time. Let's make sure it's working for you — and toward the home you want.

BetterCredit reports on-time rent payments to the credit bureaus included in your plan. We do not control credit scores or guarantee specific results; the credit bureaus determine how reported information affects your score. BetterCredit is not a credit repair organization.
